This Is What Matters

It is days like today that I realize all over again how blessed I am to be home with Logan. The kind of day that I wake up to hugs and kisses from the sweetest little two year old. I could tell that it was going to be one of those days when the sun came shining through our bedroom curtains this morning. I hadn't even gotten out of bed yet, but had decided that it was going to be a great day!
There was no rushing around first thing this morning. No hurrying to get breakfast or get the diaper bag together. There was however a happy little boy sitting on mommy's lap in the middle of his bedroom floor reading Stop That Ball, followed by Wacky Wednesday, followed by Put Me In The Zoo.

After breakfast I started on dinner so there would be no prepping later.
"Help mommy?" he said as he tugged on my shirt.
"Sure baby."
What did it matter if it took all day? This is what matters. (As I need to remind myself constantly.)

He was thrilled as he stood in the chair beside me... mixing and dumping. I know that there was an extra tsp of yeast that went into the bread, and who knows what other extra ingredients he managed to sneak in. He stole bites of chicken as I cut it up and added it to the crock pot for chicken noodle soup.

Later I called my mom and asked her if she wanted to meet and go for a walk. There was no way we were spending the day inside. Logan and I both needed a good dose of vitamin D. We walked by a school for operating heavy construction vehicles. Logan loved waving to the students and looking at all of the big trucks.

After our walk we headed over to the library. We picked out three books and two movies for the week. He is starting to really love the library. He is always happy to talk to the librarians, and they are getting to know him more each week. He loves that they remember him from week to week and always make a point to talk with him.

We had a snack in the park that is near the library. Logan loved watching the police cars and firetruck drive by. The firemen waved to him as they drove by. A few minutes later he said "I wish I could drive a firetruck." .... maybe one day little guy.

We stopped at the mailbox as we pulled into the driveway and he was thrilled to get his April baby bug book in the mail. He loves getting something that is actually for him in the mail. When Dan called on his lunch break Logan told him all about the new book.

I made a quick lunch and since I didn't want to waist such a beautiful day, we sat outside on the deck to eat. The smile on his face when I showed him the bread that he made was priceless. And for the record, I don't believe that tsp of extra yeast made any difference at all.

Tonight we are doing our weekly family movie night. I am so thankful for days like today. The ones that remind me that being a mom is the best job in the world. God knew we needed some sunshine and some hope that warmer weather is just around the corner.
