Spring Update: Back Garden Area Makeover

Last week we had a free day at home with nothing planned. Since we are still working on re-doing the downstairs flooring, (it is turning out to be a longer project than we were expecting) and are living in a construction zone, I wanted to get outside for the day. Our back deck/ small garden area was in desperate need of a makeover.

This is one area that got completely neglected throughout the entire spring and summer last year. The boys basically just used it as a sandbox, which was fine but I wanted to spruce it up a bit this year. We started with cleaning and organizing the area a bit. We stored some things away, and got rid of others completely.

After things were cleaned up and organized we headed to lowes to grab a few things. I wanted to keep our budget small, while adding a few herbs and plants that we would really use/ enjoy.

Here is the before of what our deck looked like:

Logan was a huge (and very willing helper). I had him do a mini car wash with their cars, and he helped plant our tomatoes that we had started indoors.

 And the After:

We only added a few things, and we still have some work to do in the coming weeks. We plan to paint the deck, and get some more things planted. I may add a planter box on the rails of the deck once Dan is done painting too. We would also like to update the stones around the garden this summer. We love how comfortable and cheerful it feels out there now. We have already had dinner outside a few times since the update, and can't wait for many more summer cookouts out here!
