A Day In Gloucester

As we packed our entire house into the car on Saturday morning, I wondered for a minute if it was really worth all of the effort. But we don't get these family days out very often, so I quickly decided that I didn't really care because we needed the time together. Dan and I had shot ideas around for his day off for most of the morning. "We could go to the beach, or the zoo, or a splash pad." We finally decided on Gloucester MA (which is pronounced more like "Glostah" if said with a New England accent, or "Lobstah" if you are Logan with a lobster dinner on his mind. ;)

We had spent the day along the beach there when Logan was about 6 months old, and have been saying we should go back ever since. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday. After a fun day at the beach, we went to an ice cream place that Dan loved as a kid. We had ice cream for dinner, and loved seeing all of the farm animals.

We drove home with the boys sound asleep in the back. They were covered in sand, ice cream, and sunscreen. And as we tucked them into bed, I was completely sure all of the effort to get us out the door was worth it. These family days are special. They are the ones that will be remembered years from now. They are the ones that will make my heart ache when I look back at pictures of little sandy toes and sunscreen faces.

As I emptied and re-packed the diaper bag at midnight for church the next morning, I pulled little beach rocks out of the pockets and thought of the song "You're gonna miss this". I love these sweet days. I am so thankful to have such an amazing man to build these family memories with.

  1. Such a cute family! I love that song, and it's the moments that we spend with a our family that truly matter. Those are the things we are going to remember throughout life.
