I have finished up with the boys' bedroom and wanted to share a little about it. I was going for a woodsy/ native american/ aztec style room. A bunch of the decor that I used has been collected slowly over the past year and a half. Our little guys will be sharing a room (once the baby is a little older and *hopefully* sleeping through the night).
Since they will be sharing a small room, I had a few main goals for the space:
- I wanted it to have a more grown up feel than a typical nursery so that it could grow with Logan, but still have plenty of function for the baby too.
- I wanted it to be a bonding space for the boys. As soon as I found out I was expecting, we talked a lot about how the kids would be sharing a room. We wanted the focus to be on their relationship as brothers, and all of the fun they are going to have playing together.
- I wanted it to feel as light and open as possible. I needed a lot of functioning storage for toys and clothes.
- I wanted to make Logan feel like he was a big help in the whole process. He chose blue for a paint color, he helped daddy paint a little bit, he picked out a few decorations with me, and we included some of his own art/ coloring projects in the room too.
- I wanted to do it all on a pretty low budget.
So with those goals in mind, here is a little photo tour of what we came up with...
The dresser was an extra that my mom had at her house from when we were younger. It had been painted grey, but I updated it with fresh white paint. The only cost there was paint which saved us a bunch of money. I also painted his light wood toddler bed white to match the other furniture.
My talented mother in law made the teepee for Logan. It was so nice of her and Logan loves playing in it. It is lightweight and can easily be moved to gain closet access if necessary.
To the left of the light switch, you will see the growth chart I made. I have wanted one to record Logan's growth since he was tiny, and finally whitewashed a home depot board and added some measuring tape to make a DIY growth chart.
The canoe, wood shelf, and native american statue were things that Dan had collected as a boy.
We found the perfect teepee sign to hang on their door at hobby lobby.
The antler letters for above their beds were also a hobby lobby find. Yes, this is also a baby name spoiler. ;)
Since the baby won't be in the crib right away, we kept it set up as a toddler bed because I have nieces and a nephew that sleep over and use the bed sometimes.
I made the simple crib mobile out of card stock, a wooden ring and some brown string.
The branches that the letters hang on were found on our recent family hike. I whitewashed them and hung the letters with leather.
Under Logan's bed, is a box that has legos and puzzles to keep him busy during quiet times when he isn't sleeping. I love that it can be tucked away but is easy for him to get into on his own.
I ordered this storage cube online from walmart. Each of the boxes has toys for the boys in them.
Under each skylight, I hung clip strips for any art work they want to show off as they get older. Logan loves that he can switch it out anytime he wants to hang something new.
I hope you enjoyed the picture overload, and seeing how everything is set up in the boys' room. I had so much fun putting it all together. I can't wait to see my guys play together in there. If you have any questions about anything you see please feel free to leave them in a comment below.
OK - firstly, I LOVE the name Elliot. Logan and Elliot - gorgeous!! And the room!? AMAZING. I love the western feel to it, the teepee and the dreamcatcher - their names!!!! SO cute - and the little BROTHERS sign... you are such an incredible mum.

Thank you for all of the sweet compliments! We are hoping for a big family so we would love to have a couple more. I have PCOS (which often makes it difficult to get pregnant), so we tried for about two years before getting pregnant with this little one. It was a long couple of years that brought a lot of emotions, but I learned a lot too. If we aren't able to have more we will be so thankful for the two little guys we have now, but we would love to have more in the future if possible!
DeleteOh my goodness! Could this room be any cuter?! I love it! You guys did such a great job!
