Project 52

19/52
A portrait of my son, once a week, every week.

We went away to the lake this past weekend. I was pretty sure you wouldn't go anywhere near the water. You had never been scared of deep water until this summer, when you were all of the sudden terrified of any water that you couldn't touch the bottom in. Just last week at the water park when we went in the "deep" four foot pool, you had your arms clenched tightly around my neck and begged to get out. I figured you would be playing on the dock and avoiding any deep water all weekend. To my surprise it went more like this....

Day One: We successfully got you to want to buy and wear a floating device! You had refused all summer because you didn't want to go in deep enough to need one. You loved that this one had a shark on the front, but only wore it on the dock, and screamed when daddy tried to take you in swimming.
Day Two: You slowly made your way into the water with your cousin. We couldn't believe that you actually got in on your own and swam for a while. You used your vest and a noodle and stuck close to the shoreline.
Day Three: You were thrilled when we mentioned swimming and skipped the extra noodle. You would swim thirty feet from the end of the dock and scream jokes across the water to me. You had so much fun out there and I couldn't believe in just three short days you were completely comfortable swimming all over the lake by yourself. You even challenged daddy to a swimming race.

You are such a determined little man, but want to do things on your own timing. It was so much fun watching that fear melt away this weekend. You are changing constantly, and I love watching you grow!
