Closet Organization Week One: Entryway Closet

Our closets have been getting a little out of hand in terms of organization. I decided I am going to try to tackle re-organizing one a week for the next few weeks. It is so easy to let things pile up until we aren't sure where anything is and we have to shove things around to get the door shut. That is especially true with our entryway closet as it is really the only closet in the downstairs. The bathroom one is more of a laundry nook and you can check that out here.

For my first week I decided to tackle our entryway closet. Since it is the only closet downstairs it is extremely multi-functional. as you will see below. We use it to store shoes, jackets, our vacuum, extra cleaning supplies, diapers & wipes, board games, and even some pantry type items. Here is what it looked like before I got started on organizing things:

And This is what it looks like now:

These are the four things that in my opinion, made the most difference in this closet...

1) We couldn't believe that we hadn't used these as a storage solution for our shoes before now. We love having individual bins instead of the large barrel that stored all of our shoes before. We have a much easier time finding what we need with this system.

 2) Since this bulletin board had been camping out in the closet for months anyway, I decided I would start using it. I framed it with washi tape to dress it up a little and added a weekly cleaning list (stuff that I try to get to every week) and a house to do list. The to do list has all of the things we would like to do to the house before listing or selling it.

 3) These smaller dollar store stacking bins were perfect for onions, potatoes, and my shopping bags. Everything fit perfectly in them and you can't beat the price!

4) This flat shoe organizer was something that we should have done a long time ago too. It saves a bunch of space by using up the empty space on the back of the door. It is also perfect for summer since I pretty much live in flip flops or sandals.

I am planning to tackle our small linen closet next week so stay tuned for that post. I know I will be a lot more likely to stick with this whole reorganizing thing if I have you all to keep me accountable.
