A letter to my first baby: being a big brother

Logan, I wanted to write a note to tell you how you have blown your daddy and I away with the big brother that you are for Eliott. I know he has only been a part of your life for seven short months, and there are many more sibling rivalries to come, but I want you to know how proud we are of you.

Sure, there are times when he comes in like a human wrecking ball destroying your lego creation. You do get frustrated with him from time to time, but I want you to know that the way you cheered him on when he learned to crawl across the room, brought the happiest kind of ache to my heart. It was sort of like "happy tears", but on the inside.

He has started reaching his hand out of his car seat whenever we are in the car now. He stretches it toward you, as far as his little arm can reach, and then waves it at you until you take the hint. You reach out and cup his little finger in yours. Then, more often than not, he will shut his eyes and drift off to sleep.

You beg me for a few more minutes with him when it is time for his nap, and you are the first up the stairs to get him after nap time. He lights up when you come into the room, and watches your every move. His grin stretches across his entire face when you play peek-a-boo with him.

Sometimes I think about the times that were hoping that God would give you a sibling. We wanted this for you. We wanted you to have a buddy to play with, love, and be an example for. If I am being honest, I never expected you to handle all of the change as well as you have. You continue to amaze us, and we are so thankful that you were chosen to be Eliott's big brother. We are thankful for all of the alone time with you before he was born, and for the way God gave us exactly what we needed when we needed it.

I love you times a million, and can't wait to watch you two grow together.
