Our Mornings At Home

The last few weeks I have had that feeling that comes around at about this time every year. The one that tells us we better get outside and enjoy the fresh air before there is a foot of snow on the ground. It is cold, but we bundle up and enjoy it as much as we can. We have been going outside just about every morning lately.

Most mornings around the house look like this...

  • I usually wake up a while before Logan does. I have coffee, read my favorite blogs, check the email, do whatever business paperwork Dan needs done, and clean up the house a little bit. The things that don't get done in the morning, sometimes get done in the afternoon while he sleeps.
  • Logan wakes up
  • We read books and play for a few minutes
  • Breakfast
  • Logan plays by himself while I clean up/ get ready to go outside
  • Go outside (usually for an hour or more)
  • Logan watches a show while I make Lunch
  • Eat Lunch
  • ... and then there is this hour or so before Logan goes down for a nap. Sometimes we watch a show or movie. Sometimes we play with toys.

Usually, by the time that last hour after lunch rolls around we are both getting a little tired. I don't want to do anything to get him all excited before his nap, so it is usually just a lazy hour. I have been doing his flash cards with him during lunch or in the hour after lunch lately. He loves them and the nice thing about learning at this age is he actually wants to do it. He brings them to me and asks to do them.

After a few days of the same flash cards over, and over, and over again, I decided to look for some free toddler printable pages. I came across this awesome blog and love what I have found. I decided to do their weekly toddler curriculum that I can print right off of the blog for free. I know we still have a while before we have to worry about his school years, but I figured that as long as he thinks it is all a game it won't hurt to print out new things for him to learn.

I am not doing the curriculum exactly how it looks on their blog, but he has loved the little activities that we have done. He actually started crying when we had to put it away before leaving the other day. I am all for any type of learning project that he has fun with right now. He is slowly learning his colors, letters, and numbers.

We broke out the skittles for counting and color matching at the end...
which could be part of the reason he loved it all so much!

And in case you just needed a quick chuckle....
