Fourth Of July & A Few Other Things

Saturday afternoon we headed to my mom's to have a little cookout, and then went with her to the fireworks at night. On the ride over, I told the baby that I had better feel him kick or else. Logan could not have been more in awe of the loud, bright, colorful show. We brought popcorn and sparklers along, which made it even more fun. He loved hearing the national anthem sung and spotting the big American flag in the distance. His brother was less impressed with the whole thing... not a single kick.

It may have taken him a whole twenty four hours to obey, but Sunday night, I felt the first little kicks out of the baby. Dan happened to have his hand resting on my stomach. Just as I felt the first one, he looked up at me and said, "Wait was that a kick?!". We spent a while poking at my belly and got some more good ones out of him. It was so fun being able to feel the first kicks together this time around. With Logan, I felt them for a while before Dan ever got to feel one.

I woke up with a migraine Monday morning. I went to my doctor's appointment, and was ready for the day to be over when I got home at eleven. If I was going to survive the rest of the day with a crazy three year old, I knew that I had to keep him busy with something. So I made one more quick trip out to grab a little blow-up pool. I sat out back and watched him cannonball into a few inches of water all afternoon. Every once in a while, I would feel a few kicks from the baby. I am so thankful that when those random hard days hit throughout the pregnancy, I can just wipe everything off of the list for the day and hang out at home with him.
The one of him plugging his nose kills me. :)

The rest of the week has been filled with play dates and getting good use out of that little pool. We have been doing a lot around the house too. I have been working on organizing and getting rid of a bunch of stuff. When Dan walked into our bedroom tonight he said "Wow... I really love nesting." Since finding out that we will be having another boy, hitting the halfway mark, and feeling more movement and kicks, I think it is safe to say that nesting has officially kicked in. I think Logan may even be catching on. This afternoon he asked if it would be okay for him to do his chores twice in one day. I figured that if he really wanted to do them again, what could it hurt? :) I will have some more updates to post about when I get a little more done in the bedrooms.

  1. Love that fourth of July collage! It sounds like you guys had a great day! That is so cute that your son asked to do his chores twice in one day!! And so exciting to have a baby on the way and to be able to feel it kick and move! I can't wait until I get to that stage of life.

    1. Thanks :) Logan hardly kicked at all when I was pregnant with him, so I am really loving that this one is more active!

  2. Plugging his nose IS super cute! Sorry about the migraine! I've had a headache all day and they are just awful. And migraines are even worse!

I never really nested, I couldn't believe it! Maybe this time around will be different?

    1. I have heard that a lot of women don't... but it seems to have hit me already. I got the strong nesting urge toward the end with my first son (but we were in the process of moving so it limited what I could actually do). This time, I just know that I will have a lot less energy at the end, so I am determined to get things done earlier. We will see how much actually gets done though. :)
