Today Is The Childhood Our Kids Will Remember.

A few weeks ago, we ate dinner outside on the deck together for the first time this year. It was still chilly, but we were dying to get out and grill after a long winter. As we were eating dinner together, Logan got all excited and said "This is like a great family memory guys!". For Dan and I, it was just a part of our day (which of course builds those special memories) but we didn't think a whole lot of it being special until Logan was convinced it was one of the best nights ever.

His excitement reminded me of this quote...

It's just everyday life to us.
But it is everything to them.
It is how they learn, feel loved, form their world view, decide what they believe, and the everyday life memories are what they will remember one day when they are growing a family of their own.
It is the chance of a lifetime to be a memory maker.

So whether it is setting a tent up in the backyard, or a big vacation to another country...
Whether it is a fishing trip, or a trip to Disney world... this is the childhood that they will remember forever.
These days are blessings and they are so important.

One day last week Dan and Logan had spent almost all day outside playing. I wasn't feeling great and spent most of the day in bed. But I was so thankful that Dan could be home, and I could hear them having fun together outside my bedroom window. By dinner time, Logan was covered in dirt and looked like he had had the best day ever. After the sun had gone down, and he had taken a bath, he was still asking to go outside.

We decided we would do bedtime stories outside under the stars. So we grabbed a big blanket and headed out to lay under the night sky. We even got our own (unexpected) fireworks show from some people down the street. Logan was beaming, and has asked about reading bedtime stories under the stars just about every night since then.
