Sugar Cookies & Off Days

This morning involved challenge after challenge with Logan. Redirecting. Disciplining. Hugging. He was testing more than he usually does. By about ten I was exhausted and he was still testing. I know that the most important times to stay firm are days like today. I want him to grow up respecting and obeying authority and I also want him to know how very loved he is.

I decided this morning would be a good time to make some sugar cookies. I knew Logan would jump at the chance to help me cook something. He loves to watch me in the kitchen while he snacks. He has a high chair in the dining room, but he also has a chair that hooks to the side of the island in the kitchen so that we can chat while I cook.

I have learned that on the hardest days it is so important to find an activity that will productively occupy his time. I got out all of our ingredients and the recipe card, so I wouldn't have things flying across the kitchen while scrambling to get something from the cupboard. Getting him on board to help bake took no time at all.

He learned that the ingredients don't all  taste great by
themselves :)

Can you spot the one that Logan claimed as his?

He loved the sugar by itself. In the next pictures, it may look like he is adding it to his cookie. He was really just picking off the pieces of sugar I added because they were "messy".

I am willing to bet that Dan will be pretty pleased with our morning activity when he gets home too!
