Now that painting the downstairs is almost all taken care of (we still have a little bit to do in the bathroom), I have started to change gears and have been thinking more along the lines of decorating, while Dan takes a breather. I have been planning a little bit for a gallery wall that I want to do in the living room. We have picked blue as an accent color which should go nicely with the grey on the walls and white trim. We are thinking somewhere along these lines or possibly something like this for a color scheme.
One of the things that we picked up as a last-minute-move-in item for the house was a set of four lamps. They were cheap lamps but we needed some form of light. We weren't too picky because there was so much else to think about. I figured eventually I would have the time to look for something a little nicer. Now that we have decided on colors that we love for the living room I felt safe doing a revamp on one of our lamps. If it happened to go horribly wrong we wouldn't have lost all that much in the deal anyway. Since I already had everything that I needed around the house, I didn't have to spend any money and it made the perfect nap time project.
The main problem was that it didn't really work with the color scheme of the room very well. |
I started with a few coats of light spray paint. Then I made my way around the lamp shade gluing crafting rope along the outside of it (the most time consuming part). When I needed a break I would run outside and do another light coat of white spray paint on the lamp. After the lamp shade was covered completely with the rope, I took that outside too, and gave it a coat of light blue spray paint. I loved the outcome and it goes wonderfully with the new "look" of the room.
What it looks like inside.
I would say it was a successful afternoon project!
